One Breath
One Breath
I can’t breathe…
Smothered in all directions by responsibility.
Never wanting to disappoint,
Always wanting to please.
Everywhere I turn something wants a part of me.
I need time…
Just a few solemn moments of mine.
To regroup and collect myself,
Leave all of this behind.
Sailing on a restless sea reaching for a life line.
I am lost…
Things must be done but at what cost?
Drowning in what others think,
Sea of paper in blood red ink.
A soul sold into slavery like a modern day Faust.
I am torn…
Body stretched on the rack of life painfully forlorn.
Pulled in all directions,
Spreading myself too thin.
Suffering scourges of disapproval in words filled with thorns.
I am in pieces…
This need of the masses never ceases.
Spirit temporarily broken,
What’s left is on air….only air….only air.
And yet still I cannot breathe.
I cannot breathe………
